Sphere

Sphere was a science fiction fanzine by L.T. Thorndyke and Joe Christoff.

Sphere was published in the 1950s.

First released in Cantonment, Florida, U.S.A., Volume 1, no. 2 was released in Nov. 1956. Volume 2, nos. 2-6 were issued between March and December 1957. Volume 3, numbers 1, and 2 were published in January/February, and March/April of 1958. By issue 12, Sphere was being published in Atlanta, Georgia, by Joe Christoff and L.T. 'Larry' Thorndyke.

Sphere contained articles, fiction, letters, and poetry. Articles included "'Oh To Be In England After The London Con" by Brian Aldiss, and "History of the Scienceers: The First New York City Science Fiction Club, 1929", by Allen Glasser, (editor of The Time Traveller), among others. Poetry was contributed by Leslyn MacDonald Mocabee, among others.

The letters column featured contributions from Ray Bradbury (Futuria Fantasia), Tom Reamy (Crifanac, later Trumpet), and Leslyn MacDonald Mocabee, among others.

In 1948, Joe Christoff attended one of his first science fiction conventions in Lynn Haven, Florida, hosted by the Florida Flames; eleven years later, in 1959, he attended the much larger Detention Convention in Detroit, Michigan, appearing in the play Beyond the Unknown with Tom Scortia, Karen Anderson (Alif, The Zed), Barbara Silverberg, Cele Goldsmith (then editor of Amazing Stories), Fritz Leiber, Randall Garrett, Djinn Faine (Shangri L'Affaires), and Rosemary Becker.
