The first event took place on September 21, 2001 at the University of Iowa School of Art's 'Checkered Space', during which the first issue of [[READ Zine]] was created. Each participant created their own page for the zine; the pages were then compiled and published as READ Zine and each participant gets their own free copy. The events are accompanied by musical performances, video installations, slide shows, instructional lectures and /or juggling bonanazas. The event is facilitated by [[Bradley Adita]].

The second Party occurred on April 30, 2002 at the Gallery Space of Iowa Memorial Union; the third on December 3, 2002 at the Missing Peace Gallery; the fourth on February 20, 2003 ath the University of Iowa Museum of Art. At this time the event moved from Iowa to Illinois and the fifth event was held in Chicago at the Highschool Art Space on November 21, 2004.

No experience is neccesary to participate. Once an attendee's page for the zine is made, it is compiled with all the other attendees' pages to form READ Zine. Thn, as amny copies as can be afforded are made and each participant receives a free copy before the zine is distributed. Zine publishers are encouraged to bring their own zines for selling or trading.
