The Philadelphia Zine Fest began in 2003 and is currently in it's seventh year.

Mission Statement

Our goal is to embrace written and verbal communication as much as possible without constraints. At the zine fest, be prepared for everything from personal experiences to artistic talent to first-hand politics. Trading of information is in abundance, and in many formats.

History

The event has been held in West Philadelphia at the Rotunda, in the busy, urban setting near University of Pennsylvania. Started by Casey Grabowski and Andrea Hallowell, who felt there was little to no outlet for zine culture in the greater Philly area until the Zine Fest.

Registration is on a sliding scale: free for smaller/per-zines, and a nominal fee for larger scale magazines and distros, in hopes of keeping a nice mix of media. There are sometimes related workshops and related events planned around the city during the weekend of the Fest.

Some years the Fest has brought up to several hundred people throughout the day, including lots of local/walk-through traffic.
