No External Compulsion was a zine created by Criterion from Madison, Wisconsin.

First appearing in the late 1980's, five issues of this cut and paste, photo-copied zine appeared. Criterion was involved in the punk scene as a member of the experimental hardcore group Dogfight, but the content of his zine extended into personal concerns as well as music and politics. Issue number five also included his fiction story "Tupperfucking the Javaqueen", a work of erotica that, uniquely, remained gender neutral throughout. Book reviews and music reviews were also included in the zine.

The last issue of No External Compulsion appeared in the early 1990's.
