Independents' Day Dublin (2008-) is a D.I.Y. fair of zines, records, comics and info stalls with workshops, screenings, performances and exhibitions.

The fair has been held in the Dublin Food Coop in Dublin since its inception in 2008.

The fair is organised by members of the Irish zine and comic community each year.

The fair brings together a huge array of zinesters and comic artists as well as campaign groups and musicians. The fair concludes with a gig.

History

  • 2008: Sunday 7th December, between 12:00pm and 5:00pm.

The first year of the event had several workshops including the History of Zines by Willie Jones, Feminism and publishing by the Radical Anarcha-feminist Group and a workshop on Community Television as Autononous media by Dublin Community Television. There was also a screening of the documentary about DIY music and culture Roll Up Your Sleeves and Channel Zero a show about DIY, anarchism and culture by Maximum Rock n'Roll columnist Erika Ransom.

  • 2009: Sunday 22nd November, between 12:00pm and 5:00pm.

The second event had readings by the RAG collective again, former zine writer Angus the Poet, Emily and zinester Boris Beloney. The event featured music by Owensie, Laura Sheeran, the Calliope Of The Future and Realistic Train. Screenings included an Animal Rights screening about Fur Farms in Ireland, a short film called Ringing In Sick by independent media collective Dogmedia and a film by Dublin Community Television called Is Digital TV the future of D.I.Y Publication?. Workshops included a mini comic workshop by comic artist and zinester Paddy, Make Your Own: Books, Zines and the Art of DIY Publishing by Sweet Olive zinester Natalia as well as an informal discussion on the History of Zine Making in Ireland by various people including PA from A New Clear Threat and Niall Hope of React.
