Hi Dan, I just wanted to pop in and ask you about the pageviews. Ahem, not that I constantly look at my own page's views, but occasionally I do, and I noticed something... This is a massive amount of effort and undertaking you've helped to create here, and if there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to shout out, as I can appreciate what has gone into this. Ended up doing a revised edition for Steve Sneyd's Iron Moon listings a little while back - took it from mimeograph (Que? It's a duplicator, by any other name) into the 20th Century. Will see if there is anything I can raid out of there to add to your listings. So many names from the past - but then I pre-date GenX, Bob Dobbs, Sub-Geni and a whole host of other fun-lovin' loony-tunes.

Right, I'm off to wallow in nostalgia, and see about maybe putting together a proper old skool zine - you know - with a typewriter, scissors, Letraset for the titles, and rubberoid glue. Lots and lots of glue. You can never have enough <sniff> glue...
Don't know how this works. I thought I made some pages for my zine, but they are gone, whatever…
one was under the name of Once Upon a time… puerto rico and the other etsetera. etsetera is still around somewhere, but not on the listings. write to: hagamoslo@gmail.com or let me know were they are
Hi Dan, thanks so much for your offer! I very recently got a new computer with Windows XP and I really don't have any programs to speak of. I don't have "Photoshop" or "Illustrator", or any programs like that, so I can't resize my own scans. Eugenepunk resized a bunch for me, which was really great, but I don't want to impose on him each time I want to put up a new image on Zine Wiki! So, any help or any ideas you can offer would be really appreciated Dan, and thanks so much for your offer! It sounds great! Hello! I just made several corrections and additions to the Crap Hound page and have two small requests for changes I can't figure out how to make myself: Could you correct the heading title to read "Crap Hound" (it's currently one word) and move it from the Washington zine list to the Oregon zine list? ==Not Seeing The Pageviews==

Hi Dan, I just wanted to pop in and ask you about the pageviews. Ahem, not that I constantly look at my own page's views, but occasionally I do, and I noticed something... It's been at the exact same number for months on end. So I finally decided to ask some friends to post, just to see if it changed... and it didn't. So I was wondering if there's something wrong with the page counters, or whatever. It is not a super big deal, but I try to use the ZW pages to promote the zines, etc.. etc.. and I just wanted to make sure the stats were correct. Also, did you happen to see my post from a while back, about doing an article on a brief history of Alaska zines? Let me know, alright? take care,man----Josh
POC Zine Project introduction
Hi Dan,

My name is Daniela and I am the founder of the POC Zine Project. I recently created this page for POCZP:

Will you please let me know if I need to change anything? I tried to follow the formatting protocol but this is my first wiki entry, so I appreciate any tips :)

Also, I'm having trouble finding a page on this wiki that lists zines by people of color. Does that exist, and if it doesn't, can I help create one?
You can reach me at daniela@dcapmedia.com. Thanks again!

Hi Dan, I found your discussion through the "About Us/Contact" page, and I'm hoping you can answer my question. I want to use the "Mail Art" page as a resource for a school essay, and of course we can't use Wikipedia. I see that ZineWiki is powered by Wikimedia, but would it officially be considered an extension of Wikipedia?

When I tried leaving a note on this discussion, I saw I had to login. I tried using my Wikipedia account and it didn't work, so I set up a new account for ZineWiki. This kind of leads me to believe ZineWiki is not an extension of Wikipedia.

Search not working?
Hi Dan - Anna Culbertson at San Diego State University here. I'm looking to add an entry under zine libraries for our collection, but I'm finding that the search function required in the first step for creating a new page doesn't seem to be working. Do you know what's up? Thanks!

:Hi Anna. :) I'm not Dan, but you could make a redlink here (just put the name of your zine library/collection in double-square-brackets) and then click through to create the new page? Like this: San Diego State University Zine Library - if you click through you should be able to create that page, so of course you can create whatever page you want. :)
:But yeah, I agree that the search is broken, I found that out too yesterday. :S --Cassolotl (talk) 01:28, 7 July 2015 (PDT)
Art Zine page
Well, I think I screwed up. I tried to edit/add a new category of Art Zine so that folks could read a explanation/definition, tag their zines and see a list, much like compzine but it doesn't link and the tag doesn't work. AND I am unable to delete the page I created. Is there someone who understands the system better than myself that can help me out?

[[Image:zineguide.jpg|frame|Zine Guide
Issue #6]]

Zine Guide was a review zine published by Brent Ritzel (who also published Tail Spins). Ritzel described it as "Complete contact information for 1500+ zines and assorted independent publications. Complete contents, cost, pages, size, and production quality of all available issues of every zine listed. Indexes of bands, record labels, and all subjects/topics." With glossy covers and it's mammoth size, Zine Guide resembled a magazine in appearance, but it's content was an in-depth, cross-referenced directory of the DIY zine community.

In addition to zine listings, Zine Guide also encouraged readers to vote or rate their favorite and least favorite zines and included famous zinesters, band members and indie record label owners' lists of their favorite zines. The zine printed rankings from it's readers, including the top ten zines in various categories and the top 100 most popular zines. This practice caused some controversy and Zine Guide received (and published) angry letters about this practice. Regardless how one viewed the voting and rankings, for six issues between 1997 and 2004 Zine Guide served as an impressive resource and up-to-date directory of zines. Zine Guide's first issue came out in December 1997 and was followed three months later by the last issue #64 of Factsheet 5.

Fucktooth was perzine published by Jen Angel out of Columbus, OH.

Fucktooth was published from 1991 to 2000 and was a widely circulated zine. Each issue covered Jen's personal life, her love of music, sex, progressive political issues, and more. Other writers from the punk community often contributed to Fucktooth as well. In later issues Jen focused interviews on people she admired in the punk and zine communities as well as more talk about sex and relationships. The last issue of Fucktooth published in 1999 was #24, although there were plans for issue #25 documented in the 'upcoming' section of earlier zines.

Jen was also zine coordinator for Maximum Rock 'N' Roll from 1997 to 1998, published the Zine Yearbook from 1996 to 2004 and published Clamor magazine with Jason Kucsma from 1999 to 2006.

A zine - derived from magazine - is an independently- or self-published booklet, often created by a single person. Zines are customarily created by physically cutting and gluing text and images together onto a master flat for photocopying, but it is also common to produce the master by typing and formatting pages on a computer. The end product is usually folded and stapled. Zines can be printed and bound in any manner. Offset printing is a relatively common alternative to photocopying, though there is some controversy among zine writers as to whether professionally printed products may be defined as zines.

History
Pamphleteers such as Martin Luther and Thomas Paine can be technically classified as zine publishers. However, the origin of the term "fanzine" (eventually shortened to "'zine" or simply "zine") is generally traced to small-circulation science fiction fandom publications beginning in the late 1920s, and continuing until the present, in which sci-fi fans wrote about themselves and their interests for a close-knit readership.

The rise of the punk subculture in the '70s spawned a new interest in self-publishing. Zines were used to promote a music scene that, with a few exceptions, received little attention from the larger music press. In 1975 the first known fanzine was published by Legs McNeil and friends in New York, it was called Punk. 'Punk' covered the happenings in the New York music and arts scene. The name of the zine; Punk was soon attributed to that scene. In 1976 the second most recognizable punk zine Sniffin' Glue was published in the UK by Mark Perry. The long-running newsprint zine Maximum Rock & Roll is arguably the most influential punk zine of all time.

Zines played a key role in the development and organization of the Queercore and Riot Grrrl movements of the late 1980's and 1990s. In 1985, J.D.s zine was released, which instigated the queercore scene and others, such as Homocore, Holy Titclamps, Outpunk and Chainsaw followed in its wake, leading to a wide-spread musical movement still in existence. Likewise, members of the prominent Riot Grrrl bands Bratmobile and Bikini Kill all began by published zines such as Jigsaw, Girl Germs, riot grrrl and Bikini Kill. Both these movements are important in the history of self-publishing because it was the zines themselves that precipitated and inspired the musical movements that they gave rise to.

From the mid-1980s through the late '90s, the review publication Factsheet Five (founded by Mike Gunderloy) formed a wide network of zine publishers and consumers (often the same people), encompassing a variety of interests and aesthetics. With this broad, centralized coverage, zines garnered brief mainstream attention in the mid-'90s; on the strength of their zines, self-publishers such as Jim Goad (ANSWER Me!), Lisa Carver (Rollerderby), Jim Hogshire (Pills a Go-Go), Jeff Koyen (Crank), Sean Tejaratchi (Craphound) and Pagan Kennedy (Pagan's Head) achieved moderate professional success. By 1998, R. Seth Friedman, then editor of Factsheet Five, announced his intention to sell it. It has since disappeared, although its new owners occasionally promise to revive it.

Currently, Zine World: A Reader's Guide to the Underground Press (created by Doug Holland in the '90s as a more opinionated alternative to Factsheet Five) serves a similar function, but on a much smaller scale. Zine Guide and Amusing Yourself To Death were also notable Factsheet Five alternatives, but both have ceased publication.

The Usenet group alt.zines still serves as a network of zine publishers, although activity there has declined significantly in recent years. In the 1990s, younger publishers often communicated with each other through online message boards, or through networks such as LiveJournal or MySpace.

Many believe that the widescale adoption of web browsers (circa 1996) ended the most abundant age of zines. However, they remain popular, particularly among those who also celebrate other hallmarks of the "Do It Yourself" (DIY) philosophy.

Distribution
Zines are often sold for varying but affordable prices and can also be distributed by trade

Preservation
Zines are a ephemeric medium, which means most don't have ISSNs or ISBNs. A few zine libraries now exist in coffee house basements, bookstore storage rooms and college campuses all over the world and a number of universities have growing zine collections. A zine library accepts donations from zinesters and others, catalogs these zines and will usually allow their collection to be browsed or borrowed from.
K-rist, so this is what Gunderloy's old Factsheet Five mutated into.

Thank you for your time!
hey dan,
i was wondering, would zinewiki need/be interested in an article about Alaska Zines? Something that could go at the front pages (if I'm understanding the "feature" thing correctly!)
A couple Crap Hound corrections...
Hello! I just made several corrections and additions to the Crap Hound page and have two small requests for changes I can't figure out how to make myself: Could you correct the heading title to read "Crap Hound" (it's currently one word) and move it from the Washington zine list to the Oregon zine list? Thank you! xc
Not Seeing The Pageviews

I recently created this page for POCZP:

http://zinewiki.com/Poc_zine_project

Will you please let me know if I need to change anything? I tried to follow the formatting protocol but this is my first wiki entry, so I appreciate any tips :)

Also, I'm having trouble finding a page on this wiki that lists zines by people of color. Does that exist, and if it doesn't, can I help create one?

You can reach me at daniela@dcapmedia.com. Thanks again!
How do I set that up here?

Thank you for your time!

Hi Drew, Thanks for all the great additions to Zine Wiki! It's really exciting to read about the fanzines you are adding.

I have a question: I was under the impression that A. Joquel's fanzine FMZ Digest wasn't a reprint fanzine in the sense that Terry Carr meant it - in other words, A Joquel was reprinting work from the fanzines that were running at the time he was publishing, rather than reprinting older material. Am I wrong about that? I have never seen the fanzine, so I really don't know. Thanks, InvisibleFriend 06:34, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

You're right about FMZ Digest: Joquel was collecting what he thought to be the best articles published in the fanzines that came out in the 2-3 months prior to each issue of FMZ Digest. So, yes, it was more of a best-of anthology than a reprint fmz in Carr's sense.

Glad to be contributing. Makes me feel like there's some point in all this stuff I've amassed...in the basement and in my head. Will try to keep adding more as time and energy allow.

Will also try to add cover scans at some point, but need to figure out the protocols for doing this though first.

::If you need any help with adding cover scans, just ask! Basically what I do is resize the image in Photoshop first, save it to my desktop, and then upload it. If you look to the bottom right, there is a link there for uploading files. It will take you through the steps. If it seems confusing, please don't hesitate to ask for help! Once it's uploaded, I just copy the name of the file, then go to the article and add '.
Star*Line
I wanted to offer you an explanation for having edited out "Ebon Lute" from "Star*Line", even though you're quite correct to add it. The reason is that some of the longer articles with many contributors could possibly end up with a long list of zines after the contributors names: for example, Sutton Breiding has published at least 6 titles, which I'd love to add at some point in the future (if I can find the covers online). So what I try to do is to add the titles which most closely correspond to dates when the zine featured was published, in this case "Star*Line" - "Ebon Lute" was published before Star*Line" existed, so I deleted it, but if you or I added an article about another title Breiding published that existed at the same time as "Star*Line" was being published, then that title would be added to his credits. I hope this isn't hopelessly confusing. It's not a rule, it's just what I've been doing to try to make things manageable. However, to make it more confusing, if it is a short article about a zine that I don't have much information for, then I would probably list all the titles an editor had released, just so the reader will get something out of the article.

I hope this isn't too off-putting! I just wanted to give you the reasons for editing your work. InvisibleFriend 07:46, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Hope you're around zinewiki this week, because will probably be more spammers that need to be blocked. Now there is a spam page by Darnell67SchneiderG and another spam page by WCorrina57Carr. --EarthFurst 12:10, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Also, can external link search be added to zinewiki? Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:LinkSearch . Could use it to check if any articles still have link to specific spammer websites. --EarthFurst 12:21, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

::The spam level is insane right now. I asked Jerianne to see if Denny (who runs the server/setup end of ZineWiki) if we can put in an extra level of security like adding scrambled letters to a box to sign up for a new account. I'm pretty sure the accounts and pages are getting created automatically with a program.

I'll also see if there is a way to easily search for these pages, good idea!
I understand your concerns about the Hakim Bey article. While I find him repugnant, his writings have been widely circulated within the zine community (as well as in scholarly journals and textbooks!). I included links to some of his critics in order to make people aware of the controversy, his past associations, and his alleged behavior -which tends to be glossed-over by some of his adoring fans. I think it's important to include Hakim Bey in the history of zines for the same reason that a history of the Beat Generation needs to include information on Allen Ginsburg (another dirty old man).
Resizing
Hows it going Invisible friend, about the resizing the only thing I could say is that I could resize them myself and then reupload them if you told me what images, but you'd have to delete the old bigger ones then. The reason I dont do that more often is that I can't delete the original big image from zinewiki so there would end up being two images - I could go and change the image on a respective zine page but the person who originally uploaded the image, having seen their big image still exists, may put the bigger image back on their respective zine pages, so I dont want to have to this type of messing! The thing is it seems that alot of images over the past months have been uploaded that are massive and that these haven't been resized since. If you'd like to sort this out as a collaboration I could resize them if you could delete the massive ones well just an idea anyway, --Eugenepunk 03:02, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
:I saw after I wrote to you some images that you uploaded so Ive just uploaded resized versions as 200pixels on the longest side,--Eugenepunk 03:22, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
::Invisible friend, Ive just uploaded loads more but made a few mistakes uploading one twice that was so small already i didnt change it. I think thats the main backlog sorted for now as I think Ive gone over images dating back to when Alan last deleted a load, but Ill look again, if I see images that need to be deleted as theyre doubles Ill flag them for you by writing in the talk pages,--Eugenepunk 05:29, 13 September 2007 (EDT)
:::No bother about resizing them images but the thing is I no longer have the original big versions on my computer. I have made them ones bigger but I think there was a loss of resolution; which I tried to sort it out by making the writing darker and more pronounced so I've uploaded them anyway if you think there's a loss of clarity with the picture , if you could either re-upload the images on zinewiki and Ill reduce them or if youd like them resized bigger i can also do that, --Eugenepunk 04:17, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
::::Ok so Ive reuploaded them-it only takes a second to resize them so its no trouble, but theyre fierce cool looking zine covers hope the size does them justice!Other thing I was thinking on working on was more definitions of different terms of zines - for example hardcore zines tend to have a specific layout/format almost professionalism whereas old school / first wave zines tend (tended) to be more cut n paste with references to cider and football!... but this all could be just my opinion or my point of view, talk again --Eugenepunk 06:45, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
Early Irish Fanzines
how are ya Invisible friend, you know the article Early Irish Fanzines thats from a thesis my brother did on Irish fanzines. Now I dont know if such academic writing is suitable for zinewiki but this thesis would be available to split up into separate articles about different aspects of zines - written academically. On the internet there are several such thesis available that I have got - I got ones on Dutch, French and Australian zines - if zinewiki wished to use such articles, after obtaining permission from authors, we could make more extensive but academic articles on zines on the site. Just a thought! --Eugenepunk 06:53, 3 October 2007 (EDT)
:Invisible friend, thanks for telling me about zinewiki reaching 2000 articles thats great stuff! I came across a list of Irish zines thats in a pdf on the internet that include zines I didn't know myself so I'm not able to write articles on them but was thinking of creating a page with Irish zines with no page yet. If I was still living in Ireland I could check them out myself.--Eugenepunk 10:25, 27 November 2007 (EST)
:I've made a page for these zines - Irish zines without a page - some of which I think would be easier to expand with more information available from the internet ie the zines from 2004 etc but some of these zines are from the early nineties and I don't know them that well, I thought it was better to make a page as I can't be definate about these dates and numbers of issues I think it's better to assemble them together and to indicate such uncertainty. It can act as a working page. --Eugenepunk 12:18, 30 November 2007 (EST)

Definitions and terms
Hello Invisible friend, Im still thinking about whether there is any use in relating terms like hardcore to zines by simply saying that hardcore zines document hardcore music and culture, and often share some asthetics due to similar hardcore bands and hardcore bands photos and hardcore show photos being shown in the zines.
*I was also wondering about the term 'personal as political' as a possible term to describe zines. I always thought of this term as describing a zine that uses personal anecdotes and stories to show the impact of politics on the zine writers (daily) life and/or using telling personal experiences of issues that are impacted directly by political decisions. but the term personal as political is said (after i did an internet search) to come from feminist theory and the term 'personal is political', so perhaps my own perception of it relating to zines is not that common at all.
*Also another term I was wondering about whether it would be useful to create (in order to document different production techniques of zines and give examples of zines that have utilised certain techniques) is "lino printing in zine production" - as many zines use this medium which is a diy basic accessible format for zines to bring colour to the photocopied pages, (also screenprinting for more advanced zines, also stencil painting on covers is another format). Anyway just some thoughts! --Eugenepunk 05:50, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
Oh, it just read more like an advertisement and an encyclopedia type of listing (which what we are sorta aiming at). I'm not sure about the goals/mission statement part, it seems wierd to list that in a Wiki listing. Which should probably be more focused on what has been published. What would you like to see improved/changed at the Unlikely 2.0 article? JonathanPenton 15:35, 10 March 2007 (EST)
----

Oh, it just read more like an advertisement and an encyclopedia type of listing (which what we are sorta aiming at). I'm not sure about the goals/mission statement part, it seems wierd to list that in a Wiki listing. Which should probably be more focused on what has been published. But not biggie, it's more a tone/feel thing than an actual problem with the listing. dan10things 15:54, 10 March 2007 (EST)

:Groovy. Since the goals substitute for an aesthetic, which appears to be discussed in many of your good articles, I think they warrant mention, but I'm happy to bring it way down. I'll do some more writing on what has published, and try to work on tone. I did plan to address those red links I left, but I can add them back in as I do articles. Do you guys have a policy page on what all is covered by "independent media?" I see you're doing e-zines and zinesters, but is something like Spuyten Duyvil appropriate, or too mainstream? Are thumbnails of screencaps acceptable? Regarding the discussion at the 'other' wiki: Dan, you're brilliant! InvisibleFriend 07:27, 24 March 2007 (EDT)

Thanks, I'm not sure it will have an effect on the outcome, but at least I can present an alternative point of view that will go down in the permanent record and just maybe change a few of the Wiki editor's opinions a little. I the big picture, if ZineWiki is deleted, I know it will be added again in six months when we get a couple articles written about it. Hey Dan! thanks for nice words re irish zines, im currently tryin to get an article done about them, there really used to be loads of them especially so it'll take a while, talk again, Eugenepunk
Re: Hakim Bey
I understand your concerns about the Hakim Bey article. While I find him repugnant, his writings have been widely circulated within the zine community (as well as in scholarly journals and textbooks!). I included links to some of his critics in order to make people aware of the controversy, his past associations, and his alleged behavior -which tends to be glossed-over by some of his adoring fans. I think it's important to include Hakim Bey in the history of zines for the same reason that a history of the Beat Generation needs to include information on Allen Ginsburg (another dirty old man).
RE: Welcome back!
Hey dan10things, thank you for the welcome. I am very glad that ZineWiki is back and that all the old data wasn’t lost to the ether. While the momentum may have slowed, I am sure that it will pick up again. I was never particularly au fait on the editing side, and a lot of the information I put up was limited, I am keen to bring more depth to the Aussie content over the coming months. ==You're Back!==
Hi Dan! Thank you for saying "hi" and welcoming me back! I was happy to see Zine Wiki again and very relieved that all the hard work we did over such a long period of time seems to all be intact and preserved, and ready to read. I was sure it must have been gone forever. I had written Alan but never received a response. I'm very glad you've decided to pick up where he left off and continue this very worthwhile project.
Fluke was created in North Little Rock, Arkansas in the summer of 1991, by Steve Schmidt, Jason White and Matthew Thompson.

Steve planned on doing a zine called Plaid, which never saw issue one. He did have a couple of interviews with the bands Fugazi and Plaid Retina, took photographs and wrote a slew of record reviews. This jump-started the first issue of Fluke. Jason interviewed Tim Lamb, who put out Lighten Up! zine and Trusty's first 7", on his Soma Records label. Jason also included some writing and record reviews. Matthew contributed some writing, photography, and record reviews as well. Steve, Jason and Matthew worked on the layout of the zine and, with the help of a few contributors, Fluke was born. #2 was printed the next year, in the Fall of 1992. The "Fluke Boys," as some called the three friends, ended their collaboration but Matthew continued to publish it sporadically, with the most recent issue, #9, 20th Anniversary, being released in May of 2011.

Steve now lives in Chicago and plays in the band Avenue Boulevard. Jason White now lives in the Bay Area and plays guitar for Green Day. Matthew Thompson now lives in Phoenix, Arizona and continues to publish Fluke.

Mike Gunderloy founded Factsheet Five in 1982 and is generally credited as the person most responsible for the zine explosion that followed in the next 15 years. Today on his personal website, he calls Factsheet Five "the stupidest time-saving idea I ever had", somewhat in jest. Under Gunderloy's control, it grew from a two-page photocopied sheet to a regularly published zine packed full of reviews each issue. At first it reviewed everything under the sun, but soon F5 became focused on zines and the small press. With this transformation and development, Factsheet Five (aka F5) became the first major review zine.

Cari Goldberg Janice joined F5 in the late '80s and became co-editor, Gunderloy and Goldberg Janice published the zine together. In 1988 Gunderloy's book How To Publish A Fanzine was published by Loompanics Unlimited, followed the following year by a 54 page zine entitled Why Publish? During this period, Gunderloy became a spokesperson for the zine community. He was interviewed about zines constantly and authored a number of articles about the small press. He frequently contributed zine reviews and articles about the self publishing world to The Whole Earth Review. In one of these, he described zines to the general public thus: "Zines are the periodicals that live in the cracks between the major journals you can find on the newsstands. They are published all over the country, circulate primarily by mail, and are done for love rather than money. Because they're hobbies rather than businesses, zines can be freer in what they say. But this also means you have to be more patient in dealing with them. The typical zine publisher comes home after a long day at some real job and then spends another six hours writing, designing, and trying desperately to answer her mail. Be patient when you write. Send a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you want more information. Send well-wrapped cash, or checks made out to the person doing the publishing rather than the name of the zine, which probably doesn't have a bank account. And above all, be prepared to be surprised, entertained, outraged, amused and informed by these, the irrepressible outlaw publishers of the world."

In 1992 Gunderloy and Goldberg Janice wrote The World of Zines: A Guide to the Independent Magazine Revolution for Penguin Books. The book compiled some of their favorite zines from the pages of F5. Soon after, The World of Zines appeared. The zine scene was exploding, essentially right when the spotlight was on him, Gunderloy became overwhelmed and had a nervous breakdown. He quit Factsheet Five, stopped talking about the small press and became a computer programmer. Gunderloy donated his massive zine collection from his days as editor of Factsheet Five to the New York State Library, creating the largest public library zine collection in the world. Over 4,000 of the 10,000 zines can be searched via the libraries' catalog.

After Gunderloy quit, Factsheet Five, Hudson Luce produced one issue, then R. Seth Friedman continued the magazine (with contributing editor Chris Becker) until it ceased publication in late 1998. Gunderloy has since raised a family and authored dozens of books on computer software and training.
How To Publish A Fanzine is a book about how to write, create and publish a zine, written by Mike Gunderloy. The book was published in July 1988 by Loompanics Unlimited.

Gunderloy began publishing Factsheet Five in 1982 and had been talking about publishing a basic how-to book on fanzines for years before finally writing it during 1987. The next year Loompanics, publisher of a lot of underground and subversive press at the time, put out the book. This may be the first how-to book on zine publishing, coming out a good 14 years before Stolen Sharpie Revolution. It's 91 pages long, perfect bound, and has an orange cover. While long out of print, copies can be pretty easily tracked down through used book sellers on Amazon.com.

In 1991, Caroline Azar, Jena von Brucker, G.B. Jones, Johnny Noxzema and Rex released Double Bill.

Often referred to a 'hatezine' (as opposed to 'fan'-zine), or sometimes as an 'anti-zine', Double Bill introduced a new category into the the self-publishing world. Double Bill compares two Bills: fat actor William Conrad, star of Cannon, Jake and the Fatman and Nero Wolfe, as well as narrator of Rocky and Bullwinkle, to too-thin William Burroughs, misogynist wife killer and pederast. Burroughs invariably comes up short.

Five issues of this cut and paste zine were published from its headquarters in Toronto, Canada, during its run from 1991 till 2001. The zine was nominated for a Trillium Award in 1992, and was the subject of several articles in magazines such as The Village Voice, usually provoking angry letters to the editor in response. The editors of Double Bill contributed to the zine Girl Germs, and were interviewed in the zine Alarm Clock.

A limited edition of issue three was released in a disposable diaper, a reference to Burroughs' supposed problem with incontinence. One constant feature of the zine were the letters Double Bill received and although the editors stated they only printed letters from 'celebrities', these letters were frequently from fellow zine editors. Contributors included Anonymous Boy, Vaginal Davis (Shrimp), Gary Fembot (Fembot), Kevin Joy (Zines Are Stupid), Jeffery Kennedy, Lois Maffeo, Bart Plantenga, Lisa Suckdog (Rollerderby), Scott Treleaven (This Is The Salivation Army), and many others. The final issue, published in 2001, featured testimonials from a range of musicians, writers and zine editors on the legacy of Double Bill.

Double Bill is included in the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College, and in the West Coast Zine Collection at San Diego State University.
Xerography Debt describes itself as "the review zine with latent perzine tendencies." It is edited by Davida Gypsy Breier. All of the reviewers are zinesters themselves, and are allowed to write about zines of their choice in the style of their choice. Xerography Debt also features news and opinions concerning the small press at large.

Xerography Debt had its debut in 1999. Since that first issue, some of the writers for the zine have included Eric Lyden, Kathy Moseley, Donny Smith and Jeff Somers. In the past, Gianni Simone has written a column about mail art. Artists whose work has been featured on the cover include Bobby Tran Dale, Matt Fagan and Androo Robinson. Issue twenty-two came out in August of 2007.

Selections from Xerography Debt were reprinted in volume nine of Zine Yearbook, published in 2008.

The zine was formerly known as Xerox Debt, but changed its name in response to threats from the Xerox Corporation.
Caroline Azar is a zine editor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Her first zine, released in the 1980's, was Hide, a multi media publication released in both print and audio cassette format. The zine and cassette featured music that ranged from punk to experimental compositions in both electronic and other forms. Five issues were released.

Her next zine was Double Bill, a collaboration between editors Jena von Brücker, Johnny Noxzema, Rex, and G.B. Jones. Double Bill was published from 1991 till 2001, and five issues were released. The zine was based on the notion that actor Bill Conrad (of tv and movie fame) was at war with author Bill Burroughs (the beat writer of Naked Lunch and other novels) and was termed a 'hate-zine', as opposed to 'fanzine'. The editors of Double Bill collectively contributed to Girl Germs and the zine was featured in The Village Voice.
Caroline Azar was also the lead singer and keyboardist for the band Fifth Column...

Caroline Azar was also the lead singer and keyboardist for the band Fifth Column

Chainsaw was a zine published by Donna Dresch out of Olympia Washington that later developed into a recording label.

Chainsaw existed from the late 1980's to the early 1990's during which time four issues were released. Musicians and writers featured in Chainsaw include Lois Maffeo, Juliana Lueking, G.B. Jones, Larrybob of Holy Titclamps, Jena von Brucker, editor of Jane Gets A Divorce, Candice Peterson, and the bands Holy Sister of the Gaga Dada, and Vomit Launch. Chainsaw was an early queercore zine and was also influential for the emerging Riot Grrrl scene, since its primary focus was on women in music.

Issue two featured a family tree of the "Northwest Fanzine Family" and Chainsaw regularly featured reviews of zines, including Boysville U.S.A., Girl Germs, Highschool Fag, Homocore, J.D.s, Teenage Gang Debs, True Reality Rock Report, and Twang...
